You’ve spent valuable time and money investing in a race car or performance streetcar. You’ve taken the advanced driving courses and closely follow global motor sport. You are ready to reap the benefits of your research and dedication by taking part in track days and events.
Participating in a track day without the support of a trusted shop is daunting. With the right track services team, a good track day consists of three main steps:
1. The Preparation
Before your vehicle reaches the track, quite a few things need to happen.
If you haven’t used it in a while, it needs to be taken out of storage, thoroughly inspected and given a mechanical check-up. Check things like tires, suspension joints, dampening, and braking systems. Engine coolant and oil levels need to be checked, as well as the transmission fluid. Finally, it needs to be fueled and started to make sure the electrical system is functioning properly.
Once the vehicle is deemed ready for the track, the next hurdle is purely logistical. Safe and efficient transportation to the track (either by truck or trailer) needs to be arranged to ensure that the vehicle gets to the event with ample time before the start. There is nothing worse then arriving at a track day to find that your vehicle has somehow been held up during transportation.
2. The Participation
Once the vehicle arrives at the event, it needs to be checked again to make sure that nothing got dislodged during transportation. We’ve seen perfectly working cars leave the shop only to arrive at the track and fail to start. This check stops stupid problems like a loose connection or ruptured fuel line from ruining an otherwise awesome track day. Additionally, we fuel the vehicle with performance gas and do an oil change.
Track racing is a team sport and you are only as good as your pit crew. Should a mechanical issue dodge all our checks and only appear under the stresses of the track environment, our ASE Certified crew are highly qualified to work under pressure, getting you back on track in no time– pun intended. Constant radio communication is invaluable in terms of tactical advice to give you that tiny edge over your competition which often means the difference between victory and defeat.
3. The Post-Event
After an excellent day, the vehicle has to be transported back to the storage location and prepared for storage. Any damage incurred during the event needs to be repaired, levels re-checked and the appropriate servicing done. Interior and exterior get thoroughly cleaned and inspected. Depending on when the vehicle is to be next used, fuel may have to be drained and the battery connected to a maintainer or removed. Finally, the vehicle is parked in the secure storage facility ready for the next event.
