With over 30 years of experience modifying and maintaining your sports marques, it’s fair to say that we’ve seen a few things and when it comes to track services, we’re no different! Every day we help clients achieve their performance dreams with modifications ranging from mild to wild. The only thing that we cannot modify is the driver. If you are just starting out in the track arena, here are a few things that you need to think about:
Advanced Driving Courses
Most performance marques such as Porsche or BMW offer advanced driving courses. While these can be costly they are worth more than the money. Many of these driving courses last two days and start with a classroom discussion on vehicle dynamics before progressing to the track to learn basic skills such as cornering, skidpad, lane changes, and autocross. The benefits are that you get to use their vehicles and track, receiving expert coaching and guidance. This is an excellent jumping-off point to begin your track experience. One caveat though – in most cases you must be over the age of 21.
There are many free YouTube videos that are available to help you master some of the more elusive, yet vital skills such as heel and toe shifting and left foot braking. In addition to this, there is a term referred to as ‘the driving line’. This is the line you need to keep your vehicle on to complete the track in the fastest time and is often not what you thought it would be. On the track, seconds can mean the difference between victory or defeat, so sticking to the fastest route is essential.
Track Day Logistics
Logistics problems can easily turn a track day from a pleasant event to a total disaster. There is nothing worse than paying your fees, turning up at the event and then not having your vehicle arrive. At Foreign Affairs Motorwerks, we offer a storage and transportation track service. We’ll prep your car for the track, deliver it, and pick it up after the event! This equates to a much more pleasant and relaxed track day for you, especially as you won’t have to deal with unforeseen traffic circumstances or a track vehicle that just-will not-run. Even worse, critical component failures such as braking or suspension systems could mean the difference between life and death.
Having a skilled pit crew makes driving on track a breeze. Our team of technicians is ASE Certified and we can quickly sort out any mechanical issue to literally get you back on track.
As a parting shot, we’ll remind you of the two greatest enemies of the track driver, emotion and exhaustion. Keep your focus, and your vision fixed on where you want to go. The further forward you look, the more advance planning your brain does and you’ll find yourself prepared to negotiate the toughest of situations. At Foreign Affairs Motorwerks, we have your back.
