BMW Factory Service & Maintenance at Foreign Affairs Motorwerks
A comprehensive, step-by-step vehicle inspection on all major systems is performed by Foreign Affairs Motorwerks’ team of highly trained BMW service technicians. We adhere to all factory service requirements for each specific model and model year as indicated by BMW’s Recommended Maintenance Schedule. Any repairs identified by the inspection process will be fully root-caused with a cost estimation provided beforehand to ensure the highest customer satisfaction. Keep in mind the information below is only a guideline for most common BMW models. Some models may require slightly different or further service items depending on the equipment installed.
BMW Scheduled Maintenance comes in 4 categories. They are generally applicable to model years 1999 and newer:
- Intermediate Oil Service
- Oil & Safety Service
- Inspection 1 (I)
- Inspection 2 (II)
Intermediate Oil Service
Triggered by the Service Interval System in your BMW, this is essentially the regular oil changes as part of your vehicle’s basic maintenance. Depending on your driving style, this should occur between 5000 – 10,000 miles.
For Model Years 1999 and newer, service items in Intermediate Oil Service include:
Engine
- Synthetic Motor Oil replacement
- Oil Filter replacement
Oil & Safety Service
Every 10,000 miles or every 12 months
For Model Years 1999 and newer, Oil & Safety Service includes:
Engine
- Synthetic Motor Oil replacement
- Oil Filter replacement
- Top up Engine Coolant
Wheels & Brakes
- Check Front / Rear Brake Pads for correct thickness, replace if out of specs
- Check Front / Rear Brake Discs for wear pattern, replace if out of specs
- Inspect Tires for damage and wear
- Check and correct Tire Pressure
Secondary Systems / Electronics
- Check for all Technical Service Bulletins (TSB) on specific model
- Check for all Recalls on specific model
- Diagnose issues reported by Warning / Indicator Lights
- Check Horn operation
- Check Front / Rear Windshield Wipers, Windshield Washers, and top up Washer Fluid
Chassis & Underside
- Check for Leakages on hoses, fluid lines and reservoirs
- Check condition of Steering Linkage
- Inspection of Suspension Components for looseness or fractures
- Check condition of Belts
A Road Test to verify all systems are in good working condition will be conducted at the end of BMW Oil & Safety Service.
Inspection I
First 30,000 miles, then every 60,000 miles afterwards
For Model Years 1999 and newer, Inspection I includes everything from Oil & Safety Service, plus the following:
Engine
- Check and verify Engine operating temperature range
- Inspect Coolant Level
- Check Radiator condition, signs of leaks from Hoses leading to it
- Synthetic Motor Oil replacement
- Oil Filter replacement
Wheels & Brakes
- Check Front / Rear Brake Pads for correct thickness, replace if out of specs
- Inspect Brake Lines and Brake Fluid Level for possible leaks
- Check Front / Rear Brake Discs for wear pattern, replace if out of specs
- Inspect Tires for damage, wear pattern, tread depth
- Check and correct Tire Pressure
- Apply Grease to Wheel Hubs
Secondary Systems / Electronics
- Check for any Fault Codes using genuine BMW Factory Diagnostic Systems
- Heating and A/C System test
- Inspect Battery and Charging System (battery load test, electrolyte levels)
- Interior Lighting check
- Check Seat belts / Airbag condition and any damages for proper function
Chassis & Underside
- Inspect Power Steering System (check for any looseness/play, check fluid level, seals and hoses for possible leaks)
- Check Axles, Differentials for leaks and seal conditions
- Inspect Exhaust System (leaks, mounting points, general condition of pipes and mufflers)
- Inspect Suspension Components for wear, such as Control Arms and Bushings
- Parking Brake function test
- Clutch function test
A Road Test to verify all systems are in good working condition will be conducted at the end of BMW Oil & Safety Service.
Inspection II
Every 60,000 miles
For Model Years 1999 and newer, Inspection II includes everything from Inspection I, plus the following:
- Spark Plug replacements
- Air Filter replacements
- Inspect your BMW’s Parking Brake Lining
- Check for Rust on all Body Panels as part of your BMW’s Rust Prevention Warranty
- Inspect Flexible Rubber Boots for leaks and cracks
A Road Test to verify all systems are in good working condition will be conducted at the end of BMW Oil & Safety Service.
