Custom Porsche Cayman – Big Mods For Porsche’s Smallest
A Porsche Cayman is definitely not it’s older brother the 911. It has a smaller engine and lacks some of the bells and whistles, but that doesn’t mean that is the end of the road. A custom Porsche Cayman can put your stock-standard 911 to shame, given a few key upgrades. Most cars when they leave the shop have untapped performance which just needs to be released using some aftermarket parts such as an exhaust system or new brakes. With the amount of electronics used in Porsches nowadays, utilizing an aftermarket ECU can increase performance without changing any of the physical hardware. So here are a few possible upgrades to get your Cayman charging past his older brother.
Porsche 987.2 Boxster / Cayman Performance Package
This specific exhaust upgrade claims to increase your power output and torque output. It is a total replacement for your current exhaust set up. The system comes with Maxflo Mufflers and a COBB Tuning Accessport V3 Tuner, among other things. The tubing is high quality T304 stainless steel, with mandrel bends instead of crush bends.
Mandrel bends increase airflow and have better performance. A crush-bend has ripples in its wall which alters the width of the tube, which disturbs the airflow. Whereas with a mandrel bend, the wall is completely smooth, without any ripples along the whole tube. This decreases disturbance in airflow, making the exhaust more efficient and giving the engine constant smooth airflow.
This exhaust system will give you those extra horsepower’s without the need for you to alter your engine, and since it is more efficient it will increase the lifespan of your engine as there is less strain on it.
Porsche 987.2 Boxster / Cayman COBB Tuning Accessport V3
The above exhaust system has the COBB Tuning Accessport V3 included, but on its own is also great aftermarket addition. The Accessport is a ECU which adds extra functionality to your Porsche Cayman. You can mount it on your dash and it’s large, full color, high resolution screen will supply you with status data from up to six sensors in your car.
The Accessport allows you to see exactly what is happening in your engine, giving you warnings if there are any faults as well as logging key data points. You can also use it to measure your performance on typical tests such as 0-60mph or the ¼ mile. This is perfect for quantifying the improvements you have made with your aftermarket upgrades. It will also give you warning lights for specific RPM ranges, giving you the perfect time to shift, every time.
Pagid Racing Brake Discs And Pads
Pagid Racing Brakes have been developed to be the top tier of brake systems, they aim to have an uncompromising and highly efficient brake system. Their brakes have been optimized using a large amount of research and development leaving them with superb discs which are lightweight, expertly cooled and crack resistant. Their brake pads come in a few varieties depending on your specific habits. There are pads for fast sprints as well more endurance orientated pads.
The pads are designed to be able to handle high temperatures, but are also good at preventing high temperatures by preventing heat conduction. They are modular and therefore can be used with your Cayman, without any large alterations to the wheel well. The modularity on both the discs and pads allows quick changing, which means you can have the best of both worlds. Endurance versions for everyday commuting and sprint versions for those days on the track.
Using these specific upgrades or similar ones which you feel suit you better, will radically increase the performance of your Cayman, without you having to splurge on a larger and heavier car such as the 911.
