Fluids and Filters

The best way to keep your Audi in its best condition and get ahead of developing issues is to ensure your Audi’s fluids and filters are changed in accordance with the recommended service schedule, which is as follows:

• Oil and oil filter every 10,000 miles or annually
• Engine air filter every 10,000 miles or annually
• Brake Fluid every 2 years regardless of mileage
• Cabin Filter every 20,000 miles or every 2 years
• Fuel Filter every 30,000 miles or three years
• Coolant Every 5 years or 50,000 miles

The main reason you’d want to make sure you change your oil is to ensure you always have clean, viscous oil to ensure your engine is properly lubricated. An Audi repair technician can also tell the health of your engine by inspecting the oil. Significantly less oil drained from the pan than expected can be a sign of oil burning. Too much oil can be a sign of fuel or coolant mixing with the oil. Fuel and coolant are also visible as contaminants in the used oil.

Finally, excessive carbon or metal shavings in the oil can be a sign of a developing issue with your engine. Technicians will also likely cut open the used oil filter to check for any additional metal shavings or foreign bodies.

Choose Preemptive Inspections

Unfortunately, most drivers will only decide to get their car professionally inspected after they notice something is wrong. Going to the same shop, it allows them to build a file on your vehicle and track the wear on your vehicle, and make changes to your Audi service schedule as needed. They may notice that your brake pads are wearing faster than expected and can recommend an early change before you completely ruin the brake discs.

Battery, Software, and Electronics Maintenance

Battery Maintenance is one of the most overlooked maintenance items we see across all vehicles. Your Audi’s electronics systems require 12V in order to operate, and only really have a tolerance for about 0.2V. If your battery, alternator, or grounds are compromised, your Audi may begin to develop some quirks and gremlins.

The issue arises as these quirks can often clear themselves by just driving or restarting your car, and usually don’t prevent your car from starting and being able to be driven. However, the longer these gremlins are allowed to exist, the more and more likely that some irreversible damage may occur. Ultimately, electronics are designed to perform a certain way with certain parameters, and variations from that often lead to pretty expensive repairs.

A certified Audi technician can test the base voltage capacity of your battery, the charging performance of the alternator, and most modern Audis can even identify an open ground with an appropriate OBD2 scanner.
