The Benefits Of Regular Porsche Service

Regular Porsche Service

Regular Porsche service has multiple benefits from ensuring your prized possession remains in pristine condition. That way it’s always ready for daily commuting or a spur of the moment blast through the Keys, or to get you top dollar when it is time to upgrade to the latest Porsche models.

In this article, we’re sharing some insights on the importance and benefits of taking your Porsche to be serviced regularly.

Protecting Resale Value

As we mentioned above, one of the biggest benefits of regular Porsche service, is protecting your resale value.

Porsche is an enthusiast brand, and prospective buyers are often willing to pay in excess of market value for the right vehicle. However, they are especially prudent when shopping prospective Porsche’s, and will look for complete service histories, to ensure all maintenance items were done in a timely manner.

Now, if you aren’t considering selling your Porsche, that leads us to our second benefit.

Ensured Reliability

Porsche has a reputation for being a fairly robust vehicle. But as with all cars, they aren’t immune to needing preventative maintenance. Keeping up with regular maintenance will ensure that your Porsche is always ready for whatever you ask of it.

While regular services make sure common wear items like oil, coolant, and rubber components are promptly replaced, it also gives your Porsche mechanic the opportunity to give your car a good inspection and take note of items that need immediate attention, or will need to be addressed soon.

Extending Your Porsche’s Lifespan

If you have ever attended a Porsche Club of America Event, you’ll know it’s not uncommon to see vintage Porsche’s outnumber the new models. The key to these cars having such long lifespans is the care and effort their owners put into them. While humidity-controlled garages, waxes, and other coatings take care of the aesthetics, regular services take care of the mechanical components.

Something as common as regular oil changes ensures that every component in the engine is properly lubricated and prevents unnecessary damage or wear. Replacing worn or damaged components as early as possible further lowers the risk of those components damaging other systems and leaving your Porsche requiring an expensive repair job.

Decreased Running Costs

The importance of good, clean oil cannot be overstated. Regular oil changes will ensure that the oil being pumped through your engine is free of contaminants and has the correct viscosity to ensure all your engine internals are properly lubricated. Old, contaminated, or worn engine oil can cause internals, such as piston rings, to wear at a faster rate, or increase the internal resistance between the piston rings and cylinder walls of the engine.

This has two negative effects.

The first is that the larger the gap between the piston rings and cylinder wall, the more oil can make its way into the combustion chamber, leading to increased oil consumption.

Secondly, the higher the resistance between the cylinder wall and piston rings, the harder the engine has to work to provide the same amount of performance, which requires more fuel to be injected into the combustion chambers, ultimately leading to increased fuel consumption.

What Is My Porsche’s Maintenance Schedule?

This is one of the top questions asked by new Porsche owners, and the answer typically depends on your Porsche.

If you have a newer model Porsche that has been properly maintained and has been left stock, you are best off following Porsche’s recommended service schedule, which is broken down into a regular service every 10,000 miles or annually, an intermediate service every 20,000 miles, and a major service every 40,000 miles.

If your Porsche is older than a 997 generation, has an incomplete service history, has higher mileage, or is modified, we recommend taking your car to a Porsche Service Center for an initial inspection. This will allow your service technician to get a baseline health report of your car, address any immediate and concerning repairs, as well as get a better understanding of your Porsche’s specific needs.

Porsche Service Pro Tip:

Higher mileage cars often need a thicker oil than that recommended by Porsche, and a highly modified 911 will benefit from more frequent service intervals. Different models also have different service needs. The 996 911 is famous for needing its IMS bearing changed every 75,000 miles.
