Our Favorite Luxury Electric Vehicles
The world is changing rapidly. Now that we are coming out of the worst of the pandemic, we expect a bit of an industry renaissance. This is already beginning to be spearheaded by the likes of Elon Musk’s Tesla. Personal transportation is rapidly changing as governments try to move away from fossil fuels. However, the new auto market is still suppressed, so now is a good time to sell your vehicle. The used market is currently booming. The electric vehicle market has also gone nuts.
Let’s take a look at five of our favorite luxury electric vehicles, shall we?
BMW iX
BMW calls this a ‘sports activity vehicle’. To us it seems to fit well with the likes of the Jaguar F-Pace and Lamborghini Urus. Boasting a range of over 300 miles, it is a very capable cruiser. The interior is sumptuous in true BMW fashion. It boasts some trends inherited from their other brands, Rolls Royce. Subtle touches like the ‘liquid crystals’ in the ‘panoramic moonroof’ sic. betray this familial resemblance. Built using only renewable energy in the Dingolfing plant, other environmental touches include mats made from recycled ocean plastic, and olive leaf tanned leathers. While it’s looks may be polarizing, we think its fair to say that it remains a BMW at heart.
Porsche Taycan Turbo S
If performance is really the object of your electrifying search, then the buck pretty much stops here. There isn’t a readily available contender to the Taycan that can beat it on track. The Taycan positively oozes Porsche build quality from every pore. It’s excellent 18-way adjustable sport seats (available on request). Clever route planning system reduce range anxiety issues. Porsche’s partnership with Electrify America means that it has a significant amount of roadside charging stations which help to make your trip even more flexible. Optional extras include carbon fiber wheels and custom ‘club leather’ interiors.
Mercedes EQS
Yet to make landfall on our sunny shores is the new all electric Mercedes. If you are a devout fan of the three-pointed star, you will appreciate this new addition to the fleet. Having all the perks of an S-Class saloon, but with an all-electric drive system. Another perk is the ‘hatchback trunk’. Electric cars are heavy, and the EQS combats its portly curb weight of 2.5 tons with a four wheel steering system. This greatly improves agility. This is basically the exact opposite of the Porsche we were just discussing. Choosing the EQS makes a definitive statement that ride comfort, luxury and silence are your priorities. Isn’t that right Jeeves?
Jaguar i-Pace
A slightly more attainable luxury SUV, the i-Pace is basically the F-Pace’s electrical cousin. It sports the same delightful looks and has category leading handling. The only tarnish on its reputation is its range. This is advertised as 220 miles. We’re quite sure that just like internet speeds or computer disk space, the reality is somewhat less. This is further hurt by charging software still being in its infancy. We’d recommend this beauty if you are someone who’s commute fits comfortably within range. Weekend trips can always be relegated to another vehicle.
Tesla Model S Plaid
There’s a saying somewhere about the original being the best. This is true when it comes to Tesla’s new models. Definitely the most luxurious Tesla to own, the S has the edge of experience. A decently long range is accompanied by good infotainment and climate control. Tesla also has the best charger network in the world at the time of writing. So, from a practical perspective this is the do it all EV. Although experienced in the electrical arena Tesla hasn’t that much experience as an auto builder and there are still some ongoing complaints. These range from panel gaps to missing screws and blistering upholstery. As Americans there is something special about leading the rest of the world when it comes to transportation.

When we said earlier that the market was saturated, we weren’t joking. There are many vehicles we simply haven’t discussed, like Hyundai’s Genesis or the Audi E-Tron. We’d advise careful research before you pick any specific model. Don’t forget, your favorite auto mechanics are always here to help!
