How To Neatly Install Your Radar Detector

radar detector installation

radar detector is one of the most useful devices you can install on your car, as it protects you from all speed monitoring measures by notifying you when a radar is being pointed at your vehicle. The only downside of radar detectors is that they are often installed very untidily and add more clutter to your vehicle. Here is the best way to get a clean, neat professional installation

Choosing The Right Radar Detector

When considering a radar detector, there are several options to choose from. The Escort CI-360 is known for its compact size and ease of installation in discreet locations like the dashboard cut-out for an old digital clock, underneath the rearview mirror, or in an unused ashtray compartment.

On the other hand, the Valentine One is renowned for its exceptional range and sensitivity, and offers a directional arrow system that displays the direction from which a radar signal is detected.

Lastly, the Uniden provides long-range detection, false alarm filtering, and GPS-enabled technology that allows it to track red light and speed cameras. It also includes a mute button for quick silencing of alerts.

Ultimately, the best radar detector for you will depend on your individual needs and preferences, as well as your budget and the installation options available in your vehicle.

Where To Install Detectors And Laser Shifters

Continuing with the theme of installing your radar detector as neatly as possible, we’re going to constantly look for ways to install different components as discretely as possible. The best way to install a component discretely is to make it look like it was part of the car all along. On the front of the car, installing detectors and laser shifters is pretty easy. It’s easy to install these components behind the grille so that they have a clear line of site, but are also hidden away enough that the average person wouldn’t even know they are there

The rear of the car is a little more tricky. The easiest spot is to simply mount these components to the rear glass, in opposing corners. If you’re lucky, your car may have dummy vents in the bumper where the detectors can be securely mounted

If you really want a super discrete installation, call up a reputable body shop. They will be able to make cutouts in your bumper for the detectors and fit them in such a way that they look like regular old parking sensors

Manage Those Cables

Now that all the various components have been discretely and neatly installed, it’s time to tackle those unsightly wires. Depending on where you have fitted the display controller and interface, you may not need to do much management outside of gathering any extra cable length and cable tying it securely to the car

In the case where you’ve installed one of these components in an area that isn’t the dashboard, you will need to find a creative way to run the wiring. For example, if your interface is installed underneath your interior rearview mirror, you can run the wiring up the back of the mirror, securing it with tape that matches the interior of your car into the roofing, down the A-pillar, and under the dashboard. Your options are plentiful, but just keep in mind your goal is to hide as much of the wiring as possible

In the engine bay, cable ties are your friend. You can cover all the wiring in a cable sleeve for a more professional look, but as long as you secure the cable to the car at regular intervals, it’s easy to pass it as OEM. Just be careful to stay clear of any parts that might get hot and melt the wiring.

Find A Radar Detector Installer

The best way to get the best installation is to find a licensed installer. Chances are, they have installed one of these systems on your model of car before and can suggest the best places to fit each component and the smartest ways to hide the wiring. Foreign Affairs Motorwerks in Pompano Beach is a licensed Escort installer and can neatly and professionally fit your new Escort Radar Detector to look like it was always part of the car.
