Avoid Blown Hoses With Wear And Tear Repair

Wear And Tear Repair

Neglecting your vehicle’s cooling system can cause serious damage to your engine.

Radiator hoses play a vital role in your car’s cooling system by securing that all the parts of your engine are kept cool and protected from overheating. A blown hose is a common mechanical emergency that can lead to costly repairs. The good news is that blown hoses are easy to prevent. Here’s how you can avoid a blown hose by focusing on wear and tear repair.

Check Your Hose

Radiator hoses circulate coolant from the radiator to other parts of the engine. Radiator hoses are made out of rubber, which means they are vulnerable to cracks, holes, and leaks. Over time your hoses will likely wear down. If they aren’t replaced when necessary, they can completely collapse, causing your engine to overheat.

In extreme cases, a collapsed radiator hose can even cause your engine to burst.

A visual inspection of your hose can go a long way in preventing further problems. A hose in a good condition should feel firm but not hard. A worn hose is either hard or soft and spongy. It should not be swollen or cracked.

The clamps of the hose should be checked to make sure that it’s properly sealed and there isn’t a chance for it to become loose. A bad water pump can also be the culprit for a blown hose. If your pump isn’t pumping the correct volume of coolant through, it can lead to a blown hose.

Check Your Coolant

Coolant forms the lifeblood of your engine by removing heat and keeping your engine running at optimal temperatures.

Follow these steps to keep your coolant running optimally.

  • Check Your Coolant Level

Over time, coolant levels can drop substantially. Less coolant means that your engine is under greater risk of over-heating because the lower levels of coolant need to work harder to keep your engine cool. We don’t think about checking coolant levels often enough, but make sure to prioritize regular check-ups to keep your coolant levels topped up.

  • Check The Condition Of Your Coolant

The quality of your coolant is vitally important to keep your engine cool.

Over time coolant breaks down. One way to inspect your coolant quality is to observe its color. If your coolant appears to be a rusty color, this is an indicator that it has broken down and may no longer be able to keep your engine at the optimal temperatures required. In addition to this, we recommend that you take your car into a reputable service center and allow professionals to test the condition of your coolant. They will be able to look for signs of rust and corrosion as well as to test for coolant quality.

  • Do A Coolant Flush

When the quality of your coolant has deteriorated, you may need a coolant flush. Topping off the old coolant with new coolant dilutes the coolant’s overall effectiveness. It’s better to flush out all the old coolant and replace it with new coolant.
