5 Questions To Ask Your Audi Service Provider

Audi service

Turbochargers and all-wheel drive. There’s just something special about owning an Audi, and the best way to make sure your car keeps delivering that silly grin only an Audi can produce is to make sure you keep yours well serviced. Unfortunately, we’ve heard our fair share of horror stories of an Audi service going wrong, all of them have one common theme. A shady service provider. In order to help, here are five questions to ask to help route out a shady Audi service provider.

Are You Part of An Automotive Association?

An automotive association, such as The ASE, maintains strict guidelines for its members in order to protect both shop owners and customers. ASE requires all of its members to hire ASE Certified Professionals for all technical positions. An ASE Certified Professional is a technician who has passed the ASE certification test and has completed either two years of on-the-job training or has completed one year of on-the-job training along with a two-year degree in automotive repair.

This ensures that only fully trained technicians work on your car and that no fly-by-night mechanics take advantage of you.

Are You Approved by Audi To Carry Out Warranty Work?

Long gone are the days where only dealerships were allowed to carry out warranty work. Manufacturers have finally realized that some auto shops provide better quality workmanship, and Audi has rewarded these shops by certifying them to carry out extended warranty and service work. The benefit to you is that you get the peace of mind of knowing that Audi has certified the shop to work on your vehicle and that all costs will be covered by your service plans and warranty.

Are You an Official Supplier of OEM Brands?

Audi works with multiple Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) to source parts when building their cars and vary from Bosch and Brembo to lesser-known brands like Hella. Unfortunately, there have been cases where auto shops that are not a dealer for OEM brands have fitted cheaper and inferior brands to customers’ cars in order to maximize their profits.

An authorized OEM brand dealer will have a contract with manufacturers in order to source recommended parts and spares at a competitive price non-dealers simply cannot match.

Do You Provide Written Estimates?

A good shop will happily provide you with a written estimate for both recommended services and repair. This will give you an idea of what to expect when it comes to cost and what will be done to your car. This also protects you from the costs of unforeseen repairs, as a shop will always try to stick to their estimates and will be more likely to contact you if their mechanics find any unexpected expenses in repairing before continuing.

Getting written estimates will also allow you to compare one shop’s estimate to another’s to make sure you aren’t being overcharged for parts or labor.

Did You See Anything That Should Concern Me?

This is for your peace of mind more than routing out a shady shop. When a mechanic is working on your car, they will take off protective and vanity covers, have your car on lifts, and generally have a better view of your car than you ever will. Making sure your mechanic informs you of anything they have seen that could become an issue helps you plan future maintenance and repairs.
